SHOW RAPA NUI
O TE MATATO'A
ANCIENT WISDOM. Rapa Nui
It is a Rapa Nui music and dance group, specializing in keeping the ancestral roots of
the Rapa Nui cultural heritage through oral tradition. It also develops the concept of
musical evolution, theatrical expressions and dance through the contemporary,
straightening the interpretation of the Rapa Nui being, as a unique and current proposal.
This is, Live Culture.
It is born after a reinvention of the Matato’a group in March 2010. It essentially
integrates 30 teenagers and exhibitors of the Rapa Nui dance and music, alongside a
group of professionals that allow that this group maintains the interest of the visitor; in
the experiment of its energy through the expression of the traditional and contemporary
music of Rapa Nui. It is directed by Carlos Lillo Haoa, as Artistic Director; singer-
songwriter, guitar player and First Voice of the Group. Don Dutron Lillo Haoa also
participates as Creative Director in new creations and as permanent sponsor of the
group through the Vaitemihi company, place where permanent performances are held.
Angie Pont is the curator of the projects or plays generated by the group, as well as the
person who has coordinated and created choreographies for the performance of plays
developed as Maori Tupuna to this date, currently Cultural Manager. The developed
plays are: Mata To’a (Warrior) 2010-2016, Kave Heke (Wisdom of the Kave Heke
master) 2013 – 2016, Tatou ‘e piri nei pahe hau maóhi Rapa nui (What Unites us as
